



Management and Organisational Structure
The National Open School is an autonomous organisation set up by the
Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department
of Education) under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. It is partly
funded by the Government of India.
For efficient management of the National School, the following bodies
have been constituted :
- General Body: The General Body is the apex body of the NIOS.
It is vested with the responsibility to assist the Society by providing
sound and professional advice and counsel. It generates a vision and gives
Broad policy directions to the Society. The General Body helps to ensure
that the Society remains publicly accountable and that it exercises its
powers and functions in consonance with the mission and objectives of the
Society. The Honourable Minister For Human Resource Development is the
President of this society.
- Executive Board: In general, the Executive Board has been vested
with all the powers to manage the affairs & enable smoothly functioning
of the NIOS society. Specially, the Executive Board makes all policies and
programmes of actions, takes appropriate decisions, ensures effective implementation
and exercises the review functions of the society. The Chairman, NIOS, is
the Chairman and the Secretary, NIOS, is the member Secretary of this Board.
- The Chairman is assisted by a Vice Chairman ( most senior HOD by rotation),
three Heads of the Departments, namely, Director (Academic), Secretary
and Controller of Examinations, who look after the Academic, Administration
and Examination Departments respectively.
- The core staff strength of the NIOS is 192. In addition, contract /
daily wage staff are employed on the basis if requirement.
