One of the greatest strengths of Open Schooling is its capability to use the latest media technologies to reach the unreached. Audio Visual and Social media technologies in any distance education institution like NIOS have bridged the distance between education seekers and made schooling accessible to all.

One of the major activities of Media Unit is to make effective use of available modern Educational Technology for dissemination of academic content. Audio/Video programmes, their broadcast and telecast are a significant component of the multi-media packages offered by NIOS. Audio, video/TV programmes supplement and complement printed self-learning materials (SLM) and Personal Contact Programmes (PCPs).

NIOS has a dedicated Media Unit to produce SLM-based media content through production activities. Key functions:

• ▸ Production of curriculum-based Audio and Video/TV programmes.
• ▸ Telecast of live programmes on e-Vidya channels 17, 18, 19 and 20.
• ▸ Production of video Spots, Fillers and Promos for publicity of NIOS programmes and services.
• ▸ Conduct of interactive live PCPs on Mukta Vidya Vani (MVV).
• ▸ Uploading and archiving of audio-visual content on Swayam and Diksha portals.
• ▸ Live-streaming and archiving of Audio and TV programmes on NIOS YouTube channels.
• ▸ Video recording and Photo coverage of important NIOS events.
